SET YOURSELF FREE by MWANSA AGNESS CHUNGU

Living within the space of life

Yet still chained to fear

Chained to the shackles of “what if” that echoes everyday within the mind

The prison in which I lay is known as “me”

My mind!

My heart!

My spirit!

Afraid to taste the fruits on the silver plate that is bestowed in my hands

A key…

A door…

A note…

A note written “open and set yourself free”

Amidst the chaos running within

Amidst the words that cross past my every thought

Is the word; freedom

Set yourself free I say to me

The inner voice that is trapped in between of “what I want to be and the world doesn’t care”

Pulling myself as though it is tag of war

Screaming and scratching my face like an insane being in a mental institution.

I am the voice that screams within

I am my own hands that scratch the skin of my face

I am pulling myself from me for me wants to be set free

Yet me is afraid to leave the cave called “comfort zone”

Set yourself free

For the world will never care

It is too busy sorting out the mess it’s created

Set yourself free and fly like a bird

No chains

No cage

No fear

And just flap those wings and soar up high into the sky

Like a noble eagle that you are

For life’s chance is given to you now
