LETTER TO VESPERS
Wezi – Heartsound Shares her LETTER TO VESPERS
Vespers Shimuzhila was a fourth year student, with three months to her graduation, who died in her room due to suffocation after Police officers allegedly threw teargas canisters in it.
I WROTE A LETTER TO HEAVEN, I AM HOPING YOU WILL GET IT…. DEAR VESPERS, WHAT A WAY TO MEET YOU!
Ladies and gentlemen, heartsounders. The death of Vespers Shimuzhila hurts so bad. I never knew her when she was alive but I only got to know about her after she died.
I met her parents & her family when I traveled with the team Voice of Vespers to Namwala. After seeing where she came from, it tore me apart because I understood how important the degree from the university of Zambia was to her and her family.
To educate a girl child and for her to commit to her studies and make it to her final year only to die like that is extremely painful. Maintaining silence on this issue will only allow it to repeat itself. So I went to the studio to lend my voice to this cause and inspire others to keep the memory of Vespers Shimuzhila alive. That way even our leaders will be able to see the need to listen to the cries of that family in the village. Her future was their future too.
Justice is needed. A human life shouldn’t be lost like that only to be forgotten as though it was insignificant.
